Why do we do physical exercise for weight loss?

Weight-loss

Today I want to ask this question: why do you do physical exercise? And then this one: are you sure and are you able to answer with total sincerity? And it is that many people answer without being really sincere. Many people are afraid to admit that they do it for one reason or another.

From my point of view, those who join a gym for the first time are for various reasons, although more than half are sure they do so for aesthetics, wanting to improve their physical appearance. And it is that today in our society aesthetics is very important, although it should not be like that.

Why shouldn’t it be like this? Easy. Everyone should be satisfied with their physical shape and try to be happy with their body. You have to forget about the person who insults you or despises you because you have physical defects. Is that person perfect? DO NOT. Nobody is.

And is that aesthetics is so important for companies and industries that sell us a perfect body type that, according to them, we should all have? Who decides that this type of body has to be the best? This would be entering into a broad debate that is irrelevant, but you only have to see the advertisements on television, the mannequins in the stores, fashion shows what do they have in common? You sure guessed it.

Therefore, the main motivation of those who begin to do physical exercise is usually to improve their physical appearance. Few people start sports to improve their health, although there are, I’m sure of that. Others, on the other hand, start practicing sports out of obligation or due to some type of medical prescription.

In the latter case, out of obligation to do something with which you do not agree is not the most convenient thing to do. First, you have to make the person well aware and then you have to advise and recommend exercising for whatever reason.

The objectives of practicing some type of physical activity should focus on being able to optimize the individual’s physical condition: increase lung capacity, improve joint flexibility and mobility, correct poor posture, improve basic physical capacities (strength, endurance), etc.

Ok but, and when do we talk about correcting bad habits that prevent us from improving our health? For example, constantly consuming alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, going out night after night of partying without adequate rest, not taking good care of eating is talking about all this and unleashing the bad feeling of those who listen: “no, no, no I just want to lose one extra kilo and voila, I don’t want to exchange my bag of potatoes for a salad ”.

If that person can really realize what is the best way to improve their health above all else, we will have achieved an important goal: the development of healthy and satisfying lifestyle habits.

But unfortunately, aesthetics continues to play a very important role and becomes a priority. When we argue all the benefits that are obtained for our health when doing physical exercise, that person who is totally focused on an aesthetic goal will respond with a: “sorry, what did you say? I just want to be like this famous one here ”.

In any case, I do not object to any personal reason that leads to sports. That means that society moves and active movement is great for a human being. In addition, I am sure that the person who begins to do sports for aesthetics, will finally end up realizing that he must continue to maintain this habit for his health more than for his body itself.

Why do we exercise?

Even so, we are doing physical exercise for one reason or another, aesthetics and health go hand in hand. We may be accomplishing one goal or another in our mind, but without realizing it we will be accomplishing both at the same time.

Finally, the best way to live with oneself is to accept our shortcomings. Living with them and being happy, because they are our personal brand, which makes us unique and different. Don’t compare yourself to anyone. You are you, and you should forget about any criticism that is not constructive and hurts you. Whatever you do, do what suits you best. Do not try to please others, first like yourself and love yourself more.

My best advice: take care of yourself, lead a healthy lifestyle, learn to correct eating problems, and get some physical exercise every day. Do you want to improve your physical appearance? Well, do it. But be aware that there may be something more important than that, health.
